What is a REGO?
A REGO is a Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificate. These are digital certificates regulated and issued by Ofgem for energy suppliers’ Fuel Mix Disclosure obligations in the UK.
How much are REGOs Worth?
The cost of REGOs goes up and down subject to market prices in the same ways as commodities on stock markets price rise and falls. Historically they have been worth below £1 in 2023 they reached over £24 each in the regulated market place.
Can I keep my REGOs?
Our service is to pass on REGOs for sale in the market place when produced. They have a limited life and have to be submitted within the specified compliance years.
How many REGOs will I create?
1 REGO is created for each 1 MWh of energy produced by your installation. The amount of credits that can be registered depends on how much energy you generate. All energy produced is eligible regardless of whether you export or use the energy yourself. It must be energy produced not drawn from the grid and battery stored.
When will I receive my funds?
How quickly you generate energy and as such credits impacts on how quickly you will achieve enough register-able energy to achieve credits, thus allowing us to sell them. For small domestic installations this may be once a year. Years run from April to March. Once we receive funds for the sale of credits we aim to make disbursements within 14 days to your nominated bank account or to tree planting initiatives
How will my funds be spent if I opt to plant trees?
We have several partners and from time to time choose different initiatives to support. This may be a school or scout group planting trees or a larger charity. It may mean direct purchase of trees which are donated. Green Energy Claim’s choice of recipient is final.
A list of the types of initiatives we support is in our resources and links page.
What does Green Energy Claim charge?
Green Energy Claim charges a commission of 30% + VAT when applicable.
We are a small business and provide a unique specialist service.
For our fee we will undertake all registration, accreditation, declarations, preparation for sale and disbursements. We will not take any fees upfront and will only deduct our fee once the sale is complete. (subject to minimum sale values please see terms and conditions.)
What tariff is allowed?
We understand that FIT and SEG meter tarrifs are eligible.
What meter is valid?
Smart Meters are the most efficient meters for claiming REGOs and allow a hassle free service. Most meters connected to the UK national grid are valid, non smart or dumb meters will require more manual reads and proof of readings and may incur additional administration costs to update your claim
What information about my electricity meter does Green Energy Claim need?
We will need 2 numbers from your electricity meter for verification and accreditation the MPAN / MPxN number and IMAC number. this will allow your smart meter to be registered with Ofgem. A picture of your electricity meter / meters is the simplest way to provide this information
What information about my installation does Green Energy Claim need?
Much of the information we need can be obtained from your MCS certificate and installation pack supplied to you on when your equipment was installed. A complete set of information will help us to manage your accreditation efficiently.
How long do I have to sign up to Green Energy Claim?
Green Energy Claim will act as your agent on an ongoing basis subject to a minimum amount of time eg a year to allow us to register the energy produced in that time which will be eligible for REGOs. We require a minimum 90 days notice to withdraw our service and registrations.
Are my REGOs safe with Green Energy Claim
According to Ofgem REGOs may not be issued to an agent for their own use or benefit or for the use or benefit of another operator.
Therefore Green Energy Claim can receive only administration fees for managing your REGOs, we cannot buy or otherwise obtain them for ourselves to trade for ourselves.
